Talk about over reacting. Danielle knew when she got in trouble that her parents would ground her. What she didn’t expect was that they would take her away from everyone and everything she knew. She and her family have left Earth and now she’s living on planet Logos as part a settlement team. Danielle misses her best friend—and French fries. She just wants to go home. A discontent Danielle once again breaks the rules, but the consequences this time are both terrifyingly dangerous and surprisingly wonderful. The early surveys did nothing to prepare them for this adventure. To Danielle, it’s like the planet is on steroids. Everything is super-sized; from the poison of the smallest insect to an enormous hurricane. When tempers flare and personalities change, it seems as if the viciousness of planet itself is infiltrating the team members. Then Logos reveals its most intriguing discovery of all.

When I started Golden Hope I expected a lot of science fiction, of which I am not a fan. I was really surprised to find that although this book took place on another planet,it wasn't filled with tons of science-y stuff. I really liked the way the author had a variety of personalities in the story. It certainly was a page turner and a surprise at the end too.I did feel it started a little like the new Lost in Space movie but that was only in the first couple of chapters. Then it took on life of its own. I did find myself going back and forth on who belonged with who but that was probably from reading too quickly.
I can see a sequel in the horizon.

Golden Hope Donna M Chubb 9780988542761 Books Reviews
Golden Hope was an amazing story about Danielle, who used to seem snotty and disrespectful, but when faced with danger and life or death situations, proved that the shallow person she thought she was turned out to be just a shell hiding her true self. The imagination in this book is astounding and the animals that Donna Chubbs describes are quite realistic. While I was reading it, i'd hide in my closet so as to read "just a few more pages" which usually ended not being able to put the book down until the wee hours of the morning. When you look up from Golden Hope, it still feels as if you are in a world of dions (dog-lions), mountainous trees, and colossal storms. It is an incredible science-fiction novel with love, family, planets, and survival. It is definitely a stay-up-all-night book. I strongly recommend to anyone who enjoys adventure and science-fiction.
Very high interest! All of the "best practices" story-telling elements are here. The characters and settings are believable. The story line flows logically. The author knows precisely when and how to build suspense, as well as when and how to resolve it. Her use of foreshadowing keeps the reader turning pages, yet the resolution is always a surprise. It is great fun to watch the characters change over time as they learn to cope with the challenges of life on Logos. Ms. Chubb addresses the subject of survival, both reproduction of the team and elimination of their enemies, in terms appropriate to a juvenile audience. As a bonus, the author includes some vocabulary building in the guise of the mother's daily conversation. I recommend this book as extracurricular reading for any student between the ages of 12 and 15.
This science fiction fantasy adventure written for older children or young adults is engaging from the outset. The immature, disrespectful little drama queen, Danielle, reacts to her move to another planet as any rebellious young girl would react to a move away from her familiar territory. She resents being wrenched from her friends, and feels it is a punishment for her recent unsavory activities - an attempt by her parents to control her. Although I was immediately engrossed in the story, I didn't particularly like this girl at first, or her mother who didn't seem to be parenting very assertively when Danielle bullied her siblings or was blatantly disrespectful. As the adventure progressed, however, I was truly sucked in and invested in all the characters. Lives are changed as the little band of explorers experiences life on the intriguing, and sometimes frightening, new planet. There are plenty of mysteries, major conflicts, and twists and turns in the plot. I found myself cheering for the good guys. Also, thanks to the particularly vivid imagery, the pictures continue to play over in my head.
Golden Hope is clearly a worthwhile read. It's such a page-turner, it won't take you long! . . . AND the surprising ending leaves you hopeful for a sequel!
My daughter really enjoyed the book and is hoping for a sequel. I am not a writer unfortunately, so I don't have 8 more words)
The story moves along fluidly with the characters easy to relate to. I found it difficult to stop reading and was immersed in the world created. Though aimed at a younger audience this story will open the imagination of all ages. You really feel as one of the group when this small bunch go through unexpected trials and see breathtaking wonders. The story takes you on an emotional roller coaster that I did not want to get off. I look forward to what this author may have in store for the future! Golden Hope
I am way into mid-life and yet I really enjoyed this story.
I am an avid reader and nothing is more frustrating than picking up a story to find typos, misspellings, wrong word usage - bad editing ruins even the best storyline. Golden Hope doesn't have that problem! It is well written and is easy to read. Characters are well developed and believable, one can 'see' the new world, the story flows well...so well that you keep turning the page to find out what happens next.
Golden Hope is an excellent adventure story for anyone. The book will appeal to young adults and focuses on them and their adventurous spirit. The book first appears to be going where you expect it but then the author twists the story and you are even more eager to discover the mystery. The imagery of a distant planet is well done and easy to visualize. You find the many characters believable and are always rooting for the good guys. You won't regret reading this novel.
